Environment Design

SCENE 1: LABORATORY
The design of the laboratory scene is mainly influenced by the space stations in science fiction movies and games. To incorporate a futuristic sense of technology, we added numerous geometric shapes, reflective surfaces, and glass monitors to the laboratory background. The room layout is reflected upon the real laboratory environment, which includes workstations, incubation chamber, operating bench, and sample storage sections. In order to make the reddish-orange light pop, we chose contrasting cooler tones for the overall background. The bright reddish-orange light, casting through the broken glass of the viral incubation chamber, brings out a sense of abnormality and crisis.

SCENE 2:THE EXTERNAL CORRIDOR AND THE VIRAL PASSAGEWAY
The external corridor and the viral passageway are located next to the power safety zone. The scene was incorporated with numerous complicated pipelines, over-sized valves, and cordons to reflect the industrial and mechanical style. The fact that the virus was spreading through the core area indicates that the entire laboratory was contaminated. To show the urgent situation, we set the scene under a dim red light from the tunnel, which brought out the urgent atmosphere.

SCENE 3: PATHWAY TO THE VACCINE SAFE ROOM
The third scene is the passage to the vaccine safe room, where the player can enter after clearing the previous level. When we were designing the last scene of escaping, we wanted the player not only to see the hope of fleeing from a crisis but also to remember that they are still in a crisis. So for the lighting design of the scene, we kept it dim. The green light of the safe room at the end of the passageway signals hopes and escape, while the red lights on both sides are a reminder that the player is still in danger. We also placed some cylindrical batteries in the passageway as obstacles and references for visual distance.
